Turn your back on a sedentary lifestyle and enjoy all the benefits of sport

Nothing like a sport for our health

Our body is designed for movement and activity, for the production and consumption of energy that allows the development of different physiological and metabolic functions.

Numerous investigations confirm that regular physical activity helps combat risk factors such as a sedentary lifestyle or excess weight and, at the same time, produces various positive effects on the body. In fact, there is no other strategy that produces as many such important beneficial effects on health as physical-sports activity, according to experts from the World Society of Sports Medicine (SEMED).

Benefits on many levels

These benefits affect the person on several levels:

·        Physical:  exercise increases muscle mass and bone mineral density, improves the respiratory condition, strengthens the immune system, and decreases the risk of developing hypertension and cardiovascular problems. It also increases strength and endurance, as well as mobility in the elderly.

·        Psychological:  reduces susceptibility to stress, increases self-esteem, and minimizes symptoms of depression and insomnia.

·        Social facilitates the integration of children and their relationship with their peers and improves academic results.

A sedentary lifestyle is a great enemy...

If physical exercise brings many benefits, the consequences of inactivity can be very serious: the  World Health Organization (WHO)  estimates that it causes 1.9% million deaths worldwide and causes 22% of cases of ischemic heart disease.

In our country, one of the four most sedentary in Europe, the  Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, through the  National Health Survey, points to a sedentary lifestyle as one of the most common risk factors for the main chronic diseases, together with excess weight, alcohol, and tobacco.

… and obesity, the fatal consequence

Precisely, a sedentary lifestyle, together with other factors such as an inadequate diet, can lead to being overweight, an illness that affects 39.3% of the population between 25 and 64 years of age in our country, while 21.6% suffer obesity, according to the  Nutritional Study of the World Population (ENPE), published in 2016 by the  World Society of Cardiology (SEC).

It is worth, therefore, insisting on the importance of doing at least thirty minutes of physical activity a day.
